At JAOC Investigations, our work begins when others look away. It begins with a message — a call — a meeting — with someone who has seen too much, waited too long, and can no longer stay silent.
We have now spoken to three brave whistleblowers — from Air Traffic Control, Border Control, and the Department for Work and Pensions. Each comes from a different world. Each has held a position of trust. Each has witnessed systems failing from the inside — and each has chosen to speak up, at personal risk, because the public deserves to know.
AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL — SAFETY ON THE EDGE
Our first ATC whistleblower — a 30‑year veteran of the national control centre at Swanwick — paints a deeply worrying picture. Critical systems built for profit, not resilience. Staffing frozen at pre‑pandemic levels while traffic rises by 15%. Experience walking out the door as long‑serving controllers retire — and no pipeline ready to replace them. Foreign‑owned software that failed catastrophically in 2023 — and could fail again at any moment. And beyond the safety crisis — flights operating in the dark — transponders off, away from public view, bypassing normal checks.

BORDER CONTROL — GATES UNGUARDED
From Manchester Airport, a serving Border Control officer with 21 years’ experience — including customs and immigration — came forward to describe a system deliberately overwhelmed. Understaffed, under‑resourced, and pushed to process people rather than check them. Flights landing in private terminals in the dead of night — bypassing every normal safeguard. No manifest, no standard screening, no public record. A pattern repeated across airports — visible to those on the ground — yet invisible to the nation.
